unable to install via cpan

Luca Ferrari
Hi all,
maybe this is really trivial, however I cannot get DBIx::Class
installed via cpan:

% perl --version
                                        ~

This is perl 5, version 25, subversion 8 (v5.25.8) built for x86_64-linux
(with 1 registered patch, see perl -V for more detail)

% sudo cpan DBIx::Class
...
t/zzzzzzz_authors.t ................................. ok
t/zzzzzzz_perl_perf_bug.t ........................... ok
t/zzzzzzz_sqlite_deadlock.t ......................... skipped:
Skipping test on plain module install

  /usr/bin/make test -- NOT OK
//hint// to see the cpan-testers results for installing this module, try:

Any idea?

Thanks,
Luca

I am not able to reproduce that failure.  Just now I used 'cpanm' to
install DBIx-Class-0.082840 against a more recent Perl 5 blead.  All
tests passed and the module installed.

Summary of my perl5 (revision 5 version 25 subversion 9) configuration:

This looks super strange, did you edit that?

Did you cut out lines here? If so, please attach the entire log as a file.

No, but I'm using perlbrew on that machine, if that matters.
Now, on an identical machine with perl (plain, no brew) 5.20 I got it
installed as a charm:

% sudo cpan DBIx::Class
...
Appending installation info to
/usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.20.2/perllocal.pod
 RIBASUSHI/DBIx-Class-0.082840.tar.gz
 /usr/bin/make install  -- OK

Uhm..I launched it right now in order to recapture the output and this
time it worked fine:

Appending installation info to
/usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.22.2/perllocal.pod
  RIBASUSHI/DBIx-Class-0.082840.tar.gz
  /usr/bin/make install  -- OK

Myabe I was in the middle of some system update and libraries were not working?

Luca

No idea, if it always adds those tilde lines, then that would explain the
strange.

Tests often depend on various things in your system, also beyond
libraries, and without seeing which tests actually failed (the parts you
snipped) it's impossible to tell why it worked now and not before.

Please try and keep all of the output the next time something fails. :)

You'd somehow got a blead (i.e. dev/unstable) perl instead of a production
quality one; that may have been a blip/bug that was only in one of them, or it
may be there's a change that affects us that'll need discussing on p5p.

If you can run the test against the 5.25.8 perl directly, i.e. do a 'look' with
cpan/cpanm then do 'perl -Ilib t/foo.t' or 'prove -lv t/foo.t' and send the
output, we can verify that against latest blead and see if this is a Thing.

Though assuming 5.even.x releases all work, this isn't a red alert type
situation - 5.odd.x are for playing with the ble[ea]ding edge, not real use.
